(From headstrong to psychotic roles, Maggie Shiu has done it all)

Ten years later, Maggie is still active in the movie industry and recently took on a heavy role in TVB’s blockbuster drama, “Gem of Life”, “A Watchdog’s Tale”, giving us a chance to witness her superb acting skills, accumulated from her wealth of experience. Those familiar with Maggie will know her as a low profile actress.
Once nicknamed by the media as the “No 1 Sister of Word Conservation”, Maggie is hardly showy in the presence of the media, saying very little, which is rather out of the norm for entertainers.
However, having acted for over 20 years, Maggie still manages to win the hearts of fans across generations, those born in the 70s, 80s and 90s, with her excellent acting ability.

From “Blood of Good and Evil”, “Conscience”, to “At the Threshold of an Era” and “Healing Hands” and more recently, “The Gem of Life”, Maggie has always portrayed the role of a strong-minded and experienced career woman. But recently, in her latest TVB drama currently airing, “A Watchdog’s Tale”, Maggie took on a completely different persona as a comic character with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) Jiang Tian Er. She also assumed a different role from her usual ones in acclaimed producer Jonathan Chik’s current project “Heaven and Earth”, playing the naive but rich lady conned by Moses Chan’s character. When asked about this change in her role, Maggie explains: “It is not that I wanted to change the role myself but they (producers) gave me opportunities to do so. I ever said I wanted to try a comic role and they felt that I could exude a psychotic aura so the producer decided to give me a chance to try it. I am very happy during filming because I got a chance to try a different role and I really learnt a lot of things during the process.”
Awaiting opportunities, hoping to act in China productions
Maggie revealed that once filming for “Heaven and Earth” is completed, her next assignment would be a charity promotion event for the disabled, scheduled to be aired in March.
For so many years, Maggie has always focused her career in Hong Kong. Recently, many HK artistes, especially leading ones from TVB have been flocking to take part in mainland China productions. Maggie expressed interest in productions in Mainland China and shared that she had been invited before. However, her current schedule does not permit her to do so and she could only wait for a more opportune time to come. She jokingly asked the reporters to write letters of recommendations to local directors and investors to help her get more opportunities.
Most artistes would have some hobbies that they dabble in during their free time. When asked by the media if she likes playing mahjong and whether she plays the game regularly, Maggie said: “I like to play mahjong because I can use it as a time to reconnect with friends, so it is not really for the money since I also don’t really know how to count the bets. I like the atmosphere of a mahjong session with a bunch of good friends having fun and good food together. At this point, Wayne Lee interjects with a chuckle” “When you play mahjong with her, even when she wins she also don’t know how much she should get, so you can just give her a dollar”.
