Childhood Years
Maggie is the only child in her family. Her parents owned a small store so Maggie had to stay home alone by herself. But she knew how to entertain herself and be happy. She would pretend to be a nurse and feed and took care of her dolls as her patients. Maggie's mother would pick her up at school after work but Maggie likes to get more attention from her parents. She would leave notes to her parents to inform them that she was running away but they never found her notes or they knew what she was up to so they never showed any emotions on their faces. Maggie got very disappointed because all she wanted was some attention from her parents.

At a young age, Maggie wanted to be a prostitute because she thought they can wear a lot of beautiful dresses and they look very pretty. She was very ignorant because she didn't know that they needed to sell sex for money. She thought prostitutes only needed to wear beautiful dresses and play with other people.

Once Maggie's mother took Maggie to a busy street market and Maggie almost got lost because she kept tagging along with a lady who wore a long, colorful flowy skirt. Maggie was very fascinated by this lady who looked so feminine in her skirt. Maggie loves to see people wearing beautiful skirts but her own mother seldom wears them. This woman in the market seems more like the mother that little Maggie imagines.

Maggie joined the basketball team in high school. Since she is tall, she was pretty good in the sport and became one of the lead players. She also became more sociable and made more friends.

Maggie's Biography

Maggie didn't get into college, so she became a nurse after high school. It seemed like a dream come true for Maggie because she always wanted to become a nurse when she was a little kid. She did make mistakes as a nurse because sometimes she messed up with some of the medicine. She enjoyed her job but this career didn't last long though. Not because she wasn't good at her job, it was because she found a new interest she enjoys more -- acting.

Why did Maggie change her career from a nurse to an actress? She never dreamt of becoming an actress nor was she interested in the entertainment field but as fate would have it, one of her friends was. Her friend wanted to apply for the TVB acting class so she can become an actress. As she didn't want to be alone and she was very nervous, she asked Maggie to apply for the class to accompany her. Thus Maggie applied for the class because of her friend. Her friend didn't get into the class but luckily Maggie did get accepted. Maggie starts to love acting after taking her classes at TVB so she quit her nursing job and signed a full time contract with TVB. Since she was very young at the time, her mother had to be there when she signed her contract with TVB. She was only 18.

An Unlucky Start

TVB always liked to promote new artistes. That was why TVB named Maggie, Sheren Tang, Kitty Lai, and two other actresses as the five beauties in the 80s. Just like the five tigers, TVB planned to promote these five actresses but Maggie was not as lucky as the other four actresses.

Maggies Biography

Maggie wasn't as fortunate as some stars who had leading roles right after they got into the show business. She started her acting career playing a "ke le feh" or an extra to supporting roles. Her first series was "Take Care Your Highness" in 1985. Actually Maggie was pretty lucky to get a good supporting role in her first series. "The New Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre" was a big production for TVB in 1986. Maggie was given a supporting role as Siu Chiu, who paired up with the leading man, Tony Leung. Even though she didn't play an important role but her career had slightly changed after the series was aired. Actually this series took a lot of bad criticisms because many people enjoyed the 70s version better. Even Jin Yong (the author) didn't like the new version. Nevertheless, after this series was aired, TVB gave more chances to Maggie because she started to play second and third leading roles. What Maggie received the most out of this series was not TVB's promotion; instead it was her friendship with Sheren Tang and Kitty Lai, especially Sheren. Since these three young actresses were from the same acting classes, they established a great friendship with each other.

Maggies Biography

Maggie finally got leading roles in "The Conspiracy" and "Tin Long Kip". She acted as a pitiful character in "The Conspiracy" but this series didn't help Maggie much in her career. TVB still continued to promote her so she was the first leading actress in her next series (Tin Long Kip) and she paired up with Andy Lau again. But this series wasn't even aired in Hong Kong and was only available on tapes for overseas viewers because of Andy's position at TVB at the time. Since Andy decided to quit TVB, they decided to freeze him and put his series in the freezer. Therefore, "Tin Long Kip" was Andy's last series before he became a super star. Andy treated Maggie very attentively, just like his real girlfriend while filming the series. After many years had passed, he admits that he had feelings for Maggie when he was filming the series. Even though Andy has acted with many of the famous beauties in movies like Michelle Reis and Rosamund Kwan, he said his most gorgeous female co-star of all is still Maggie Siu. Andy said Maggie really looked like a Greek fairy when she was filming the ancient series with him. But Andy regrets that he didn't ask for Maggie's telephone number after the filming was over.

Maggie wasn't lucky enough to keep her first leading lady title. In her next few series, she only acted as the second, third, or fourth leading actress. But Maggie didn't give up; she continued striving in her acting career patiently and gave her best in all her series. She hoped for improvements in every series.

Is it Love or Friendship?
Maggie's first love relationship happened when she was 15 years old. He was also in the school basketball team and her friends told her that this guy liked her. But she didn't think it was real love because they were more like good friends than lovers.

Career Turning Points
"Looking Back in Anger" was TVB's biggest production series in 1989 and Maggie was in the series as the third leading actress. Many of the casts received high acclaim and gained a lot of popularity through this series because this series was very popular at the time and it was also the most watched series of all TVB's productions - which was announced in 1994 based on TVB rental records. Actually Maggie wasn't the one who gained the most from this series because Felix, Carina, and Deric benefited the most. The good thing was, with Deric and Maggie's characters sad ending, TVB decided to reunite these two artistes on screen again in another big production series -- "The Blood of Good and Evil."

Maggies Biography

"The Blood of Good and Evil" was Maggie's most famous series and it is her biggest career turning point. Not only was her role exceptionally well received; she and Deric became the best onscreen couple in many viewers' hearts. This series is also Deric's most famous work in his acting career. In 1994, this series was announced as the fourth most watched TVB series ever made and in 1995, it was voted as the most popular TVB series TVB had ever produced. Maggie had finally arrived with "BOGAE"; she retained her first leading title and became many fans' idol thereafter.

After having completed filming "BOGAE", Maggie and Deric worked in another series (Breaking Point) together but this time they didn't play lovers. Maggie paired up with Leon Lai but she only acted as the second leading actress in "Breaking Point". There were rumours that Maggie's role was shortened and she had less screen time due to her contract negotiations with TVB. Rumours were rife that Maggie will not sign up with TVB again so they decided to freeze her. Maggie's new contract with a new managerial team helped her reach another new peak in her career in the movie industry. While she was filming "Change of Time", she took some time off to shoot "Shogun and Little Kitchen". As a result, she became very tired because she had to film non-stop dividing her time between the 2 movie sets. Maggie paired up with Leon Lai for the third time in "Shogun and Little Kitchen." Leon told the reporters that he was secretly admiring Maggie when they were filming "Bing Kuen" in 1988 but the reporters thought he said all of these to promote his new movie. In Love Again
Many people wondered who would be the lucky man to win Maggie's heart since many actors have admitted their love towards Maggie at the time. She never disclosed her personal relationship to the public, but the cat was finally let out of the bag when the reporters revealed her relationship with Ekin Cheng to the public. Since the reporters saw them dating, their relationship couldn't be kept secret anymore. A lot of people didn't look well upon this relationship because Ekin was two years younger than Maggie and there were many predictions and rumours about them. There were rumours that Maggie was the one who courted Ekin first because she would buy roasted duck for him and visit him often during filming time; and there were rumours that Ekin used Maggie to gain more popularity. Of course Ekin denied these rumours and told the public that he truly loves Maggie wholeheartedly.

Actually Maggie and Ekin got acquianted at a mutual friend's birthday party. It wasn't the first time they had met however. They worked on the same TVB series before (A Time of Taste) but didn't have any scenes together because Ekin was playing a minor part as the next generation while Maggie, Sean Lau and Law Wai Kuen were the first generation. Ekin saw Maggie passing by in the hallways of TVB many times and he admired Maggie's stunning beauty in her ancient costumes. He thought to himself, how he wishes to have a beautiful girl like Maggie as his girlfriend. When Ekin met Maggie again at the friend's birthday party a couple years later (late 1991), she was already very popular but that didn't deter him. He wooed her determinedly, singing a karaoke love song to her in front of everyone, even sending gifts everyday for the whole month during Maggie's birthday month. Ekin's romantic gestures moved Maggie and she accepted his love.

Many people didn't understand why Maggie picked Ekin to be her boyfriend because she was so famous and he was "Mr. Nothing" at the time. Also a lot of actors admitted their love towards her like pop-singer, Leon Lai. That was why many people couldn't figure out why Maggie picked Ekin over Leon. But with so many bad rumours, their relationship wasn't affected.

In 1992, TVB purposely casted Maggie and Ekin as lovers in "Crime Fighters", knowing that their real life courtship would make the audience want to watch the series as this is the first time Maggie and Ekin were paired together in a series. When interviewed, Maggie said that she and Ekin are professionals and know how to separate their characters from themselves. She was happy, as working with Ekin will allow them to spend more time together. Maggie was gradually cutting down her work, she admitted that she rather spend more time with Ekin than acting. Thus she only acted in one TVB series in 1993. Maggie also revealed that she was offered a recording contract but turned it down.

On the other hand, Ekin's news were always on himself and his career. Some of Maggie's colleagues were concerned about her and gave her advice not to be so low profile because she was wasting her talents and holding herself back. Maggie didn't listen to these advice. Maggie was reunited with Deric Wan again in another new series -- "Conscience." This time the filming didn't go as smoothly compared with their other series because a lot of incidents happened.

In 1994, during the filming of "Conscience", reporters brought up the subject of marriage to Maggie and Ekin. Maggie said that she and Ekin wanted to observe the political effects from Hong Kong's 1997 handover before deciding whether to stay or migrate. Maggie was injured while filming; there were also a lot of negative rumours about her. Since Maggie got very skinny, there were rumours that she was aneroxic and she was taking drugs. Maggie was very depressed but she was even more sad about the pains she had given to the people who love her like her family, friends and boyfriend. But the bitterness turned out to be very sweet to Maggie because Ekin had made a promise to the public that he would always love and take care of Maggie for the rest of his life. Of course Maggie was very touched by her boyfriend's words but she started to have a lot of negative feelings about herself. These negative feelings included thoughts like "Why did Ekin have this kind of girlfriend?" or she is bad image for Ekin to have a girlfriend like her. These feelings started after Ekin got very popular and these feelings were not very good for Maggie. She tried to hide herself from the reporters because she knew that the reporters would always ask her about Ekin. Since she doesn't want to ruin his image, she would leave or avoid interviews altogether when the reporters asked her about her boyfriend. She did not mind being interviewed regarding her work but when it comes to relationship, it will always be a "no no." Consequently, Maggie's image was getting worse because the reporters thought she was weird and set her a bad image.

Ekin became very popular after starring in the 1996 movie "Young and Dangerous" and the two sequels in the same year. In the past, people would refer to Ekin as "Maggie's boyfriend", but after he got famous Maggie was referred to as "Ekin's girlfriend." Maggie and Ekin tried not to go to the same place in public or work together so their relationship wouldn't affect their careers. But there were rumours that Maggie and Ekin started to live together in 1997.

The Breakup
1999 was definitely one of the worst years of Maggie's life. From the breakup to the high speed driving, many reporters followed Maggie for days and nights. Ekin and Maggie's more than seven years relationship finally came to an end in 1999. The breakup news was first spread by someone named Kenny on the Internet that Ekin and Gigi Leung were having a love affair. Many reporters speculated this person was Gigi's ex-boyfriend but Ekin, Maggie, and Gigi all denied the rumors. Like a famous Chinese phrase, "Paper cannot hold fire"; the truth finally exploded on Ekin's birthday. Gigi came out of Ekin's house the next morning and the reporters were all outside the house waiting to interview them. Both Ekin and Gigi denied their relationship and said there was nothing wrong in having a friend over to a birthday party. But the reporters didn't believe them because Maggie was not there during the birthday party. They found out that Maggie went out drinking at a bar on Ekin's birthday and she had moved out of their house in mid 1999. But Ekin told the reporters that they had never lived together because they live in different floors of the house.

From not admitting to having proof of Gigi staying at Ekin's place made the heated rumours reach the highest climax. Even Ekin's neighbours told the reporters that Gigi went to Ekin's place often but Gigi told the reporters that they were just friends but she does have feelings for him. On Ekin's part, he kept himself quiet for awhile because he told the reporters that he didn't care what they wrote about him. As for Maggie, she also didn't say anything and continued filming her new series, "At the Threshold of an Era."

There was always headline news on this triangular relationship. The papparazzi not only followed the three main leads; they also interviewed other artists' opinions on the news. Some artists took sides on Gigi or Maggie. Like Gigi's friend, Karen Mok supported Gigi and veteran actresses like Dodo Cheng told the reporters that she doesn't think there is such a simple friendship relationship of a lady staying overnight at a man's place. Even though many people were not part of the triangular relationship, many artistes were pulled into the news.

Fans were not happy with the news so there were many angry fans that took sides on supporting their idols or whom they thought was right. There were many bashing going on the Internet and the reporters would post some of the messages out in the newspapers. Most fans took the side of Maggie and thought of Gigi as the third party of the relationship. Most of these angry fans were not happy because they felt Maggie had wasted her most beautiful seven years on Ekin, sacrificed her career too much for him, and the promise Ekin made in 1994 was broken. Both Ekin and Gigi's image were highly affected by the news. Since Ekin always had a "good boyfriend image", he lost his goody image in a short period of time. Gigi also lost her "pure jade girl" image and fans started calling her a "woo lei ching."

After all these news, Ekin finally came out and spoke about the news in a press conference. His manager accompanied him but his interview was very short and his manager did most of the talking instead. He told the reporters that he had broken up with Maggie for a few months already and he and Gigi were just friends but he did admit he has feelings for her. He didn't tell the reporters earlier because he said that Maggie doesn't want it to be spread. He told the reporters that if they think Maggie was the one who got hurt, then they should stay away from Maggie, meaning not to chase her around. But a few days later, Ekin gave an interview to a magazine about the breakup. In the magazine interview, he told the reporters that the reasons why he broke up with Maggie was because she didn't pay much attention to him, too isolated... That is why it caused fans to be even more angry with him because they considered his interview as offensive to Maggie and his trying to look for excuses for the breakup as a way to save his image.

Since the reporters followed Maggie everywhere, she tried to escape from them by driving in fast speed. She did a lot of crazy and fast driving and risked her life from getting chased from the reporters. Therefore Ekin asked someone in his manager company to be her driver. Even though the breakup was revealed to the public, Maggie never said a single bad word about Ekin or Gigi. She kept herself quiet. Many people thought she was very unhappy but her performance in "ATE" definitely shows her professionalism in her job because she was able to play her role greatly despite the breakup. After the breakup, Maggie still stayed in the flat owned by Ekin but she moved out in year 2000.

The Taiwanese media was able to take some pictures of Ekin and Gigi in Japan and saw them openly kissing. Finally they have admitted their relationship to the public that they are dating.

The old Maggie will not even dare to go out with a swimming suit, but now she is not afraid to open herself and wear a bikini.

Lately, "ATE" was shown on Taiwanese channel and Maggie's role, Tina, was well received by the Taiwanese viewers. Maggie's new role, Anson in Healing Hands II is also very well received by the viewers and the press.
