^^ i did take some pictures but they turned out poor.....too blurry and dark.
it was fun though. my first time meeting Maggie although she's been to Msia umpteen times before. here's a brief recap of what happened on Saturday evening: --
i reached Ara Damansara around 7pm, saw that the stage had already been set up. it looked quite nice because there were christmas trees and lights decorating the stage...so the ambience was rather festive looking.
at around 7.30 people started to crowd around the stage. there were tvb staff around the place putting up banners with GOL stars around the vicinity. also a booth next to the stage set up by the dvd production company which was the co-sponsor of tonight's event. apparently, if you buy the set of GOL dvds (epi 1-20) for RM39, then you'll get a small poster which the GOL stars will sign for you later. and only those who have these posters are allowed to go onstage to get their signatures. i thought it was quite a rip-off. why are we being forced to buy these dvd sets, when some of us are already Astro-on-demand subscribers? plus, i've already seen episodes 1-20. but the sales guy was saying, "it's worth it coz you'll get to see the stars up close and personal...blah blah". these people are SO money minded. (i didn't even have to buy anything to get Roger Federer's signed picture when he came to KLCC and the guy is an international superstar.... ) i was reluctant to buy the dvds, and told the guy i'll think about it first.
7.48pm. people are getting restless waiting, and jostling around for the best place around the stage. i dare not move away from my spot, although the kid in front of me was quite a nuisance as he kept waving his poster above his head, blocking my view. by the way, the fanmeet time printed on the stage wall was from 8 to 9.30pm, and not 7.30-9.30 as was previously thought. i looked around and saw the crowd growing larger. there were mostly families with children, grandmothers, and groups of teenagers all waiting in anticipation for our Hong Kong stars to make their appearance. meanwhile, the darned GOL themesong is being played on the loudspeakers on a continous loop.
8.00pm. there is excitement in the air. people look around, trying to guess from which entrance the stars will make their way up to the stage. suddenly there is a murmur and lots of camera flashing to my left. i see Bowie, Maggie and Kenny being led by a small entourage down the stairs from the first floor of the trendy cafe beside the stage. so they were hiding and chilling in the cafe all this while, lol. some people shout out 'Bowie!' "Maggie!' while they made they way to the backstage, with guards surrounding them. these guards also walked around the stage area telling everyone to move back and stood there in front of us. drats. they were tall and blocked our view even more. then the corporate sponsors took their seats in front of the stage and more people came through to stand right in front of us. wth? who are these ppl and why are they blocking our view? the whole area in front became overcrowded and chaotic soon.
the emcee came out, and asked us to give the HK stars a thunderous applause when they stepped on to the stage. he also gave a quiz about GOL and gave away small gifts to those who had the correct answers. the woman standing next to me answered one of questions correctly (at what age did 'Ko Cheung Sing and Sunny go to HK to learn to become chefs? answer: 15 years old) and won a gift. the gift was in a tiny narrow box. could be a keychain or something.
so finally, the GOL stars came on stage - first Maggie, then Bowie then Kenny. people clapped politely, but generally this crowd was quite muted. Bowie tried to raise the atmosphere by talking to the crowd cheekily and getting them to respond. Maggie was dressed fashionably and she looked great in person (thinner than on screen). she shyly raised her arms and waved to the crowd smiling. Kenny was grinning nonstop, he seemed to be in a great mood.
the emcee told us that the HK stars will act out a scene from GOL and have 3 members from the audience to reenact those scenes. the lucky people on the side of the stage got chosen by maggie to come out and act. the scene goes like this: Kenny and Maggie are slow dancing, a drunken Bowie stumbles upon them and asks them what they are doing. Maggie and Kenny reply nonchalantly that they are dancing, what does it look like? then to agitate Bowie further, they pretend to kiss (by using angles and turning their head side to side) and Bowie freaks out, grabs Maggie and yells 'you belong to me!' (in canto) and hugs her close while pushing away Kenny. lol, it's all done in a comical way, of course. then the chosen audience members imitate this scene. Bowie then asks the crowd to pick the best actor from the sound of their clapping for each of them. the winner is the guy who acted out Bowie's role, as he was most animated and into his character, so he got the loudest cheers and applause.
the next scene the HK stars acted out was a proposal scene. Maggie sits on a chair and Kenny goes on one knee with a bouquet of flowers to propose to her. Bowie interrupts the proposal and tell Maggie to marry him instead. somehow he and Kenny start a stripping competition, with Bowie removing one of his socks and Kenny pretending to remove his shirt. the audience members who imitate them go one further and fake Kenny even removes his ring for fake Maggie and wiggles his butt. naturally, fake Kenny wins.
the last competition was an 'exercise demonstration'. 3 people go up on stage to showcase their kungfu/exercise moves and they win something. the woman who goes up on stage, must be a big Maggie fan, as she goes straight to Maggie, holds her hands and tells her excitedly, 'you are so, so, so beautiful!' she seems utterly star-struck. LOL. and Maggie laughingly replies ' thank you so, so, so much!'
while the others demonstrate their moves, this lady fan and Maggie stands to the side and Maggie obligingly chats with her, and even puts her arm around this fan. the lady fan is beaming happily all the while and Bowie also joins in their chat. from what i can see, Maggie is really friendly and warm towards her fans, with no airs whatsoever. there was another female fan who came up on stage earlier to play a game, and she grabbed Maggie for a quick photo (her friend took the photo from below the stage) and Maggie was willing to pose for a photo with her too. Maggie gestured to her friend that they can take more photos later, but too bad, the guards didn't allow anyone else to take photos with the stars afterward or even bring their camera on stage during the autograph session.
so after the games were done, it was time for the autograph session. emcee announced that people with the poster could queue up to go on stage and get the HK stars to sign on the poster and on the dvd box. i made up my mind quickly to get the dvds, as i came all the way here, might as well go through the whole nine yards. even though i was not happy to be forced to buy the dvds, it was worth it if i could be standing this close to Maggie and got to speak with her. so when it was my turn to stand in front of the table waiting for my autographs, i took out something that a friend of mine made for Maggie, and gave it to her awkwardly. and i said, 'hey Maggie, i'm your biggest fan'. lol. Maggie looked at me directly (wow, she has really big eyes. gorgeous eyes) and made a funny face when she heard that. haha. and then she looked at the present and asks curiously 'where is your friend?' and i told her my friend couldn't make it (as she's in Australia right now). as Maggie was sitting in the middle and my eyes were totally focused on her, i barely paid attention to Bowie and Kenny sitting on either side. but they were very nice too, Kenny smiled and made eye contact with everyone, and they all said "thank you" back when i said thank you to them.
