The Pal with the Most Chemistry
I had already got to know Bowie in 1996 when we were filming the drama "Wong Fei Hung". I was acting the role of aunt 13th and he was a supporting cast. Regardless of what role he played, he was very serious about it. During fliming, I joked with him and he will tick me off, "How can you be like that!" So whenever I work with him, I must be even more serious than him and not let him catch me off guard.
Actually both of us are very sentimental, whether its romance, friendship, our feelings always take first place. Someone said in order for us to be best of pals, we will need to have fate and destiny across three life times. In our case, we seems to have much entanglement over a long period. As time passes, I find him more and more matured but his hair seems to be less and less. (Laugh)
Filial Son and Homely Person
Bowie is actually quite a homely person. Once he finishes work, he will head home to spend time with his parents. He is not the sort who will lavish on romantic gestures and he does not really like to entertain and drink.
Bowie also like so to bring his parents shopping and he is good at bargaining. For example, he will buy rice from the petrol kiosk at a price of $85 instead of the supermarket which sells at $90. I think he is a very practical and grounded person.
During the filming of Gem of Life, his mother passed away and I attended the funeral. During the whole ordeal, I did not speak a single word to him because I am afraid we will break down. Actually, as long as I am by his side silently, he knows I am there to support him. Although he was really down, he did not take any time off from filming, reflecting his professionalism.
An Ideal Boyfriend
In Gem of Life, Bowie plays the character of Calvin, a domineering and charismatic guy. I really fell in love with this character because he is successful in career, very filial and a romantic and devoted lover. Too bad, there is no such character in real life.
In Gem of Life, there is a Full Monty scene, the ever first one where Bowie was most scantily clad. There were about 100 people around and this scene is probably the most awkward moment of his acting career. To ensure he is in top form for this scene, Bowie spent time to train his physique.
During filming, I suffered from my back injury and Bowie made sure he took proper care of me and held my back and reminded me not to hurt myself again. When filming kissing scenes, we both will laugh all the time because we are too familiar with each other.
Both of us are quite "violent" during filming. There was a scene where I hit him with my heels and it was for real and my arm swelled. Bowie took revenge and pushed me into the pool.
Bowie, Moses, Gigi and myself were in France for a period for outdoor filming. During our free time, we shopped at the supermarket and Moses and myself were responsible for cooking while the others eat. At night, the crickets were really noisy and timid Gigi kept the music on the whole night, "torturing" Bowie.
Right now, I am working with Bowie again for "Heaven and Earth". For this drama, we are enemies and to create this feeling of animosity, I shall not be communicating with him.
About Maggie Shiu
The 1990 classic TVB hit drama "Blood of Good and Evil" propelled Maggie Shiu to the status of "Fa Dan" (lead actress) in TVB. Her signature short cropped bob defined her iconic figure as a charismatic actress who stands out among the stereotypical sweethearts in showbiz. In "Gem of Life", Maggie plays the role of big sister Sylvia Hong, a career-minded woman in love with Bowie's character. "Gem of Life" will start airing from 2 October at 1.30 pm. |
