3 JULY 2010
地点:MINES RESORT, KUALA LUMPUR
3 AM : So excited! Preparing to board the flight from Singapore to KL to attend the In Health and Beauty Expo to meet beautiful Maggie. This mission seems more important than a business trip and I almost could not sleep. Still I heeded Shaw's advice to catch a wink or two so that I can be alert enough to see Maggie. So afraid I will miss out anything and kept checking my bag, especially things for M.
4 AM: Reached the airport. So many people started watching World Cup after checking in at the lounge and the mood was pretty bustling. After a cup of coffee and sandwich, there is still some time so I stick a note on the gift for Maggie and a note to let her know who misses her very much.
6 AM: Finally, can board the plane. half an hour more to fly to KL
8.30 AM: Reached KL and the first thing is to sms Carmen let her know i reached safe and sound. Carmen sms me to arrange our meet-up at the venue. First time seeing Carmen and I am so looking forward to it. Cannot see her picture clearly in fb but i think can recognize her.
9.30 AM:After taking the KLIA Transit and Kommuter, finally reached Serdang station. Thanks to Shaw for helping me plan the transport route. The shops are not open yet, and I am feeling a bit hungry. Ate at a Ba Kut The shop (really nice!). The boss was kind enough to direct me how to walk to Mines Resort which is only about 5 mins away.
10.30 AM: Reached MINES SHOPPING FAIR. Start shopping! Bought a top and a dress. LOL
11.30 AM:Walked & walked and saw the entrance to the exhibition. Excited!
12.00 AM:Reached the venue. A kind event person gave me a form to take part in a draw and took the initiative to help me take a photo with the backdrop of a super gigantic Maggie.
12.10 AM: Finally saw Carmen. She is so gentle, shy but warm and quickly introduced me to Susan (No 1 Maggie fan in KL). We started chatting non-stop like old friends/fans.
1.40 PM:Maggie finally appeared! Feel like screaming but of course not. Haha. Maggie was warm and professional as she explained about the program in this convention. (But I don't really understand cantonese so cannot really explain much).
1.45 PM: The first game had started. Maggie told the emcee KK that her fan brought home-made soup for her. (Referring to Susan). I pushed Susan to go up for the games but she was shy. In the end KK pointed to me and said, "You, the one pushing, you come up,". My heart pounded. M was looking at me. (1 sec, 2 sec, my heart stopped)
2.00 -3.00 P M
After introducing myself onstage, I quickly stood near M. While KK was not looking, I made a signal to Carmen who promptly started clicking the camera away. Surprisingly, Maggie did the same sign! LOL. Could sense she was a bit shy as she did not know me after all but yet was trying hard to break the ice with me. While the other participants were taking their time to come up, i took the initiative to tell Maggie I am from Singapore. At this moment, her mesmerizing eyes became larger and looking very surprised, asked me, "How did you get here?".
Almost got electrocuted to death by her big beautiful dark eyes and I froze in time. Wanted to steal a few more glances at her but my stubborn head kept dropping down like a spoilt fan. So irritated with myself then! My heart kept beating faster and I muttered nervously, "Oh no, I cannot speak Cantonese." Unexpectedly, at this point, Maggie whispered in a low voice, "Its ok." Maggie then asked me what time was my flight but before I could reply her, the game started. (In the end, Susan was sporty enough to respond to our persuasion to come up and join in the fun).
My nightmare began. KK wanted us to do a catwalk! I was so nervous and in a turmoil. Although M did a demo, my mind was blank and I could not register any of her words of encouragement in my head. Had to catwalk twice before I was let off. So embarrassing! My first time meeting M and I totally embarrassed myself in front of her. No choice, the only way to be up close with her was to take part in this game. I started to recall one most embarrassing moment - The MOT trip 2005 which I was laughed at by colleagues for my terrible dancing (I was arrowed by the Minister to join him in this traditional dance in LAOS). Wanted to find a hole and hide inside! Sigh.
When KK asked the participants to stand in front, he could not remember my name. Maggie swiftly interjected and reminded him, "Her name is Carol". KK was amazed and praised her for being able to remember my name so fast. At that moment, I was deeply touched by Maggie. Usually, I am not easily affected by such matters but this time, I was really touched that she took effort to remember me. She probably did not realize I am actually Magifaye yet, the one who sent her drawings through Anson (HK).
Before I got down the stage, I told Maggie I have something for her and she responded eagerly, "Sure!" There was not much time for words and as I could not understand KK's instruction, Maggie gently told me that we could go down stage. The second game started soon after and Maggie was busy helping out the participants while the rest of us started to take photos of her.
When the program ended, we quickly grabbed the chance to take photo with Maggie (since participants were allowed to take photos with her). When it was my turn, Maggie asked me again about the time when I would be going back. When I told her I would be heading back in the evening, she looked kind of shocked and asked me, "Aren't you staying one more night? You are going back tonight already??"
At this juncture, I felt like a sick kitten who got slapped gently by her loving owner for snacking on tidbits and scurried down the stage. Maggie's bewildered expression still remained stuck in my head - she seemed shocked by what I said and seemed at a loss whether to laugh, smile or nag at me. Yet, I really could tell how genuine she was. Even after I went downstage, she was still looking into my direction, making a cute expression and gesturing, trying to ascertain whether I was really going to fly back so fast. (I must be really crazy to fly in and out). Now I am really upset with myself for dashing off the stage without finishing my conversation with her. She seemed to have some questions to ask further but so many people surrounded her to take photos. On one hand I did not want to deprive the others of having a chance to take a photo with her but on the other hand, I was too scared to be so close to her for the first time. So conflicting!
Soon Maggie had to leave for a networking lunch. Before she rushed off, she pulled the three of us to a corner near the entrance and before the mob of people caught up with her, she told one of the assistant to take a picture of us - only herself, Carmen, Susan and myself. (What a privilege!). And she was sure firm about it that only 4 of us.
That was the last we saw of her that day.
After that, Miss Pang, a friend of Maggie called her during the lunch and asked Maggie if she could come back to chat with me since I would be departing home in the evening. Maggie wanted to come back to catch up with us but she was too tied up at her end. However, I am already contented enough to know that she thought of us. (Carmen told me today she asked her if I had already gone back. She bothered to ask about me!)
Hope the next time i see her, I am less nervous.
Looking forward to seeing her next time. She is worth the wait.
(So many people to thank, Shaw, Carmen, Susan (C & S for taking so many photos). Forum admin (Feily and Forever Anson) for posting the pictures and report and all friends in maggieshiu.net/bbs. Thanks to Maggie since I got to know so many friends through her) |
